Outer Banks Season 3: Where do we Know the Release?
An official release date for Outer Banks season 3 has not been announced, but judging by the previous seasons and when it airs, we estimate the third season to premier in late 2022.
Rather than releasing a trailer with new footage, the cast of the show came out to tell us how excited they are for the new season to start.
Netflix announced the release of Outer Banks season 3 by tweeting, “Time to get in a pogue state of mind…” and posting two photos from filming.
Season 1 and 2 of Outer Banks were released approximately 15 months apart. Production for season 2 took place between April and August 2020.
There are rumors that the Outer Banks team will wrap season 3 in October, and they hope to release the series either at the tail-end of 2022 or the start of 2023.
OUTER BANKS SEASON 3 PLOT
Details about what will happen in the next season are fairly sparse, with creators and Netflix keeping those cards close to their chests. However, we know that John B.’s relationship with his father will be a major part of Outer Banks season 3.
Season 2 of the show has lots of drama. At the end of season 2, John B’s father was found alive. Season 1 had a tumultuous ending followed by a vacation to the Bahamas in season 2 with his new girlfriend Sarah.
The creators of the show were asked if John B’s relationship with his dad was important and they had this to say: “It’s a huge theme. Eventually, they will meet back up and John B has to reconcile his idealized version of his dead dad, with the reality of his living dad.”
In the second season, the Pogues are stranded on a desert island, with no food or any way to get off of it. Meanwhile, villain Carla Limbrey has allied herself with Big John, John B’s father and they seem to want the same thing. Will they become allies? We don’t have option but to wait to see this.
We will see some long-awaited romances in the future, especially with the Pogues family. The producers confirmed they are exploring new connections between characters to be explored later this season.

Netflix has yet to confirm anything about the Outer Banks season 3, so this is all just speculation at this point. We will alert you the second Netflix releases any information about what’s coming next for The Outer Banks.
Elizabeth Mitchell teased what’s to come for her character Carla, who she plays in the series American Gothic. In an interview, she said that “I do get to hang out with Big John (Charles Halford) quite a bit.”
After Big John and Limbrey’s alliance, the final scene of Outer Banks Season 2 hinted towards the healing shrouds when Big John told Limbrey he would help her find one if she helped his son.
Limbrey and Mitchell’s character, a prince, are seen together in the first half of season two. Limbrey killed her half-brother in season two, so their relationship is ‘tense’.
Outer Banks announced that production for Season 3 has started on Twitter on Feb. 28.
What happened in season 2?
In Season 2, there is a group of five friends looking for the Cross of Santo Domingo. Near the end, they get lost in a storm and need to find safety quickly.
The crew boarded the Coastal Venture in order to take the cross. There was a chaotic shootout and they escaped on the lifeboat to safety.
The episode ends on a positive note as the Pogues celebrate being together and safe for now.
12 Shows Like Outer Banks to Watch Until Outer Banks Season 3 Is Released
It’s time to round up the kids and go for a summer vacation. Watch TV shows like “Outer Banks” on Netflix that are just as good as the beach. Another reason to watch “Outer Banks” is because there are hot teens, treasure hunting, and mystery in lawless waters.
The Outer Banks season 3 has not yet been released. We are currently awaiting the release date, which Netflix claims will come soon. Seasons 1 and 2 have already been released, and they were both filmed in 2019.
As Season 3 of Outer Banks has not yet been released, if you’re looking for a new show to fill the gap we’ve put together a list of shows with similar themes. These range from those dealing with teens coming of age, to those that are all about teenagers getting into trouble, or those that revolve around them hooking up.
The Summer I Turned Pretty
When it comes to beach related YA dramas, The Summer I Turned Pretty is another book based on the stories of Jenny Han. This time the plot revolves around a girl in Massachusetts, who turns 15 and gets caught in between having two guys both after her.
On My Block
Both Outer Banks and On My Block are Netflix shows, but they’re different. They both center around a group of four friends who live in a low-income neighbourhood. It goes back and forth between comedy and dramatic moments.
If we’re talking about absurd TV, there’s no better example than Riverdale. What began as a fun show about Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) and what are the trials of being high school with a murder plot has since evolved into something so out there it’s actually really challenging to provide it in just one short sentence.
Honestly, it’s gone in so many strange directions over its first season; some characters to prison, some to war, and getting other individuals involved with the mafia (I’m truthfully only scratching the surface) that she absolutely deserves the title of TV’s most “sure, why- not!” show.
You should absolutely put your belief on hold and know how to laugh if you need to watch this one, but if you enjoy Outer Banks season 3 then I have an intuition you already know how to do that. That said, Riverdale makes Outer Banks seem sane which is what it’s so fantastic.
Outer Banks Season 2 starts with a sentence that reflects the absurdity of Elite. As the show follows three friends who enroll in a private school, it deals with social topics like homophobia and religion while leaning more into chaos. If you’re into Outer Banks, this chaotic show is right up your alley if you’re looking for something light-hearted.
“Based on Lauren Oliver’s novel, Panic is truly a teen drama for the ages. Located in a small town in Texas, graduating seniors take part in a various challenging task that guarantees them to move out of the area where they are grown up. – something that seems impossible otherwise.”
The Wilds is a Prime Original, which follows a diverse group of multicultural teenagers whose plane has crashed, leaving them at an island with mystery and adventure. The story explores deep emotions and character development with the addition of flashbacks and flash-forwards.
Netflix was trying to create a show that appealed to Generation Z, but they might have had better luck reaching this demographic if they chose a more popular reference. They definitely need to do a bit more research before creating another coming-of-age drama, because there will undoubtedly never be another show like the WB classic Dawson’s Creek.
Outer Banks season 3 is like the winter version of this show because there’s so much surfing and snow. Like John B, Kat Baker (Kaya Scodelario) is on a mission and she seeks treasure instead of a missing father. They have an interesting Romeo & Juliet plotline about mental illness with pairs figure skating as the hook.
One of the best things about getting away to Outer Banks was just how scenic it was; anyone who watched Outer Banks wanted to get away to America’s Eastern South, which was the actual setting of the show. Similarly, Summertime has a fantastic setting–on the Adriatic coast–with bold and bright colours that make this seaside town look even better. This show has an adorable love underlining story that appears so much more picturesque than Outer Banks season 3 does.
Well, if you loved the conflict in Outer Banks, you might also enjoy the drama teens get up to in Ragnarok. Thor is reborn as Magne who fights against the Jutul Corporation, which is run by other figures from Norse mythology who have posh lives and looks so beautiful. They are representatives of corporate malfeasance and evil people as they contaminate a beautiful town in Norway called Edda, with factories dispersed all over. Watch it now on Netflix!
The OC, the t.v show set in a posh California town and starring Ryan Atwood who falls in love with Marissa Cooper, was a teenager soap that, simultaneously with countless others, prominently features a cross-class relationship between a rich girl and poor guy.
Blood & Treasure
If you’re looking for action and adventure, Blood & Treasure should be the next show on your list. This series follows an art enthusiast who teams up with a fugitive to catch a terrorist who funds his endeavors through stolen treasure. It might not be innovative, but it’s a good low-key binge for summer.
